January 18 – Protecting Our Children against Bullying
As parents we want to protect our children from the wounding, harm and even trauma that happens when our children are bullied.  Parents often wonder:  is there a way we can prevent our children from being bullied? What can we do as parents to decrease the likelihood our child will be bullied? Are there skills that can be taught so that our child can learn how to deal effectively with a child who is bullying? And if our child has been mistreated, what can we say and do to lessen the hurt and foster resilience? In this presentation, Colleen Drobot will address these questions and will discuss three key factors that are imperative for parents to understand if they hope to protect their children. Through theory, stories, and examples she will address how parents can best equip their children against bullying and cultivate resilience in the face of it.

February 1 – Bullies - Their Making and Unmaking
Children who exhibit bullying behaviour are often enigmas to us. Because of this, we mistakenly project strength where there is fragility, attribute intention where there is instinct, and assume choice where there is drive. Because of common misperceptions, we proceed to battle against the symptoms, hardening the very syndrome we wish to confront. We cannot effectively address a problem we do not understand. Colleen will trace the bully syndrome to its roots and pave the way for change that is deep and lasting. The answer lies in softening the defenses of a child who is bullying. For anyone raising a child who is very sensitive or is stuck, softening the defenses the brain has erected for protection can be a daunting task that sometimes seems almost impossible.  This workshop will focus on ways we can soften a child’s heart to decrease or eradicate bullying behavior. Colleen will use theory, examples, and stories drawing from her years of experience as an educator, family therapist, faculty member of the Neufeld Institute, and mother of two.

After a restful few weeks I hope you are ready to jump back in for a fun filled winter term! We have so much in store over the next three months for students and families alike. Please reach out if you need more information or want to get involved.
Many blessings
