Let's Begin Again
Lent is approaching, and what better time to begin anew? This is the first issue of St. Francis Woods Campus News with its new design and delivery through MailChimp. With our subscribers increasing, this service provider allows us to send you news more efficiently and make it easier to access and navigate from any electronic device. Your feedback is always welcome!
Living in the Present
How many times per day do you catch yourself ruminating on the past? While reflection is necessary to identify our failings, get to the business of making changes this Lent rather than focusing too long on the wrong you have done. Express your regret through deliberate acts of self-discipline and real change, not self-loathing. We should loathe our sin, not ourselves. Turn from sin and toward God and you will be showing love for God and for the life with which you have been gifted.
"The People in the Last Days and Hours of Jesus"
Saturday, March 25 | 9:00 a.m.-11:00 a.m. | Motherhouse Auditorium | $15 per person
We will consider the known men and women who participated in the passion, death and burial of Jesus as recorded in the four gospels. Studying their actions will help us examine our discipleship and lead to resolutions for our everyday life.

You are invited to join us for Mass at 8:15 a.m. on Saturday mornings in Queen of Angels Chapel. Breakfast for our Saturday morning adult enrichment programs is at 9:00 a.m. in the auditorium below the chapel. The presentation begins at 9:30 a.m.

Scripture Reflections
Scripture reflections are held every Thursday morning from 9:00 – 10:30 a.m. in the Assisi Center. At these sessions there is reflection and sharing on the next Sunday’s Scripture readings. It is a good way to prepare for our Sunday Mass celebration and to better understand and apply the Word of God to our lives. The sessions are led by Sr. Marilyn Renninger, OSF. All are welcome.  No fee and no need to register.
Pay It Forward Project: Inspiring Works of Neighborly Love
Below is another guest's way to pay it forward when she was among 20 people at the FSSH 150th Anniversary Closing who were given money to do a work of neighborly love to help the Sisters fulfill their charism.

I wanted to spread your works of neighborly love even further than to just one charity.  I donated $50 to each of the following charities on your behalf.
  • Brady's Journey - a young boy from my parish of St. Michael's was burned over 60% of his body in mid October and remains in Riley Hospital for Children in Indianapolis, IN.  He has already been through many surgeries and will continue to need many more.
  • St Martin's Healthcare - this is a local charity in Garrett, IN that provides dental and medical assistance and care to the poor through volunteer doctors, nurses and other staff.
  • Warm A Heart -  this is a Soup Kitchen and Food Pantry in Waterloo IN run by New Hope Church.  Each week on Tuesday and Thursdays volunteer groups in the area provide a meal to about 75-90 people.  They also provide bags of groceries which the people take home.
  • St Michael's Quilters - there is a group of ladies from the parish that make quilts for every child baptized in the parish.  They also make queen size quilts that are all hand quilted and raffled off.  The money they receive from these raffles are donated to other local charities.
Wishing you God's continued blessings on your community as you continue to be "Sisters of mercy, joyous and poor, doing works of neighborly love."
You are in my prayers always,
                                                                                    Mary Blomeke

Setting the Table for Fasting and Feasting

This Lent, let us expand this concept to address whatever keeps us from deepening our relationships (e.g., too much time on Facebook, holding on to a grudge, focusing on the negative). Let us also be about feasting—feeding on everything that draws us to the real and lasting joy found in sharing ourselves in love for family, friends, and also for our neighbors in need.
