Hello Mods!
It's an exciting time of the year! Our last meeting was a hit (albeit a chilly one!), the Mancuso show in NJ where our members' quilts, including the paint chip challenge, will be exhibited is just ahead, and the MQG's QuiltCon is happening as you read this, where many of our members are reveling, learning, and buying too much fabric--what could be better?

February Meeting Events
We had a chock-full meeting in February--the speaker was fascinating, the vendor was exciting, and the show and tell was stunning!

Jeff Hermes, an intellectual property attorney, spoke on topics relevant to quilters' concerns about rights, sales, fabric use, derivatives, and many other fascinating copyright topics. He discussed the details about what is copyrightable and what is not; those in attendance would most likely agree that some of what does not fall under the purview of copyright protection is surprising! Copyright is certainly a complex topic and deserves detailed study. Hopefully Jeff's presentation inspires further conversation amongst members and careful consideration as we continue to use fabrics, make quilts, and publish patterns.

Usha Berlin brought her luscious Indian prints out to us--and many pulled out our credit cards in return! It's hard to say no to her vibrant colors and gorgeous block printed fabrics! We look forward to seeing Usha again at our February 2018 meeting!
Show & Tell
Clockwise from left: Greer showing her yellow brick road quilt featuring the Wizard of Oz; Jenny showing the quilt she completed at the Mariondale retreat; Karen showing her Liberty wonky cross quilt; Maria showing her faux-fussy cut quilt--all from the same fabric! Upcoming in March
The Mancuso Quilt and Sewing Fest of  New Jersey is just up ahead from March 2-5. Our guild will be exhibiting our Paint Chip Challenge minis among other quilts. If you are interested in visiting the show, there has been talk of making a group outing of it on Sunday, March 5. If you are interested in helping to make arrangements to go, please email membership@nycmetromodquilters.com

Military Family Quilt-In
Our quilting party to piece the Military Family quilt for the NYU Langone Clinic was a success! The top was finished in about 3 hours. Eva has taken the top home to sandwich and quilt it, after which Caroline will bind. We're all looking forward to showing you the final quilt at an upcoming meeting! Thanks to all our dedicated members for coming out to Gotham Quilts to do this lovely project together! Thanks especially to Ivete and Andrea for donating their space to us!
Timeless Treasures Dash Basic Block Challenge
The Buddy Block quilt tops we created for the Timeless Treasures Dash Basic Block Challenge have been made into quilts and donated to the #QuiltsForKids charity.

Click through to our Guild blog to refresh your memory on how the challenge progressed then head over to the Timeless Treasures Sew Timeless blog to see their fab rooftop photoshoot of our finished quilts.

Mods at Large!
QuiltCon is happening as we speak, and a number of our members are there taking classes, attending lectures, and shopping way too much! We look forward to sharing our experiences and our quilts with everyone at upcoming meetings! Take a look!
Announcements
It's time to sign up for our Ladore Retreat! Our annual summer retreat will be from June 9th to 11th this year. If you haven't made your deposit yet, you can do so at our March meeting! We now have a Square, so the guild will be able to accept payments by credit card for all future events and membership renewals! Yay!
A message from Ivete and Andrea of Gotham Quilts:

The Bee Hive
Improv Bee
This month, the scheduled Ibbie Queen is Judy! Please be finishing up any blocks you may have lingering around your studio for Greer, Cynthia, Chris, Caroline, Andrea or Jenny!
Lucky Bee
This month's Lucky Queen Bee is Jody! If you have a straggler for a prior queen bee, please do your best to make haste in returning her blocks!

And, as always, if you find it impossible to complete your blocks, please return the queen bee's fabric!
On The Block
Block Lotto!
This month's block lotto is a great stash buster, and will make for a very fun, colorful and vibrantly composed quilt! For instructions and measurements, click below.

Have you made you kids' blocks yet? Theresa reported at the last meeting that so far, three quilts have been made with the blocks we've made--a good start! But the goal is 10 quilts! Please keep bringing your blocks! We'll collect through March and maybe April!
